NEWAVE MODULAR SURFBOARDS, Q&A.

Thinking about switching to a Newave modular surfboard or built your Newave surfboards quiver?

You’re not alone. Innovating in a sport as deeply rooted as surfing naturally raises questions.

Does it hold up? Does it float? Will I lose the feel? Is it worth the price? This article is here to answer all these questions, honestly and transparently.

At Newave, we’ve created a range of modular boards designed for modern, nomadic, and responsible surfing. And we’re going to explain everything to you, piece by piece.

1. How to assemble a Newave surfboards ?

It’s very simple, fast, and you don’t need any special tools!

Ready to assemble your board in a snap?

All you have to do is put the pieces together, push and twist the pins, then clip them to secure the board.

What if the board comes apart in the water?

This is THE question we hear the most. But the answer is clear: no, your board won’t come apart in the water.

Our locking system has been specifically designed to withstand pressure, movement, and impacts, even in the most demanding conditions.

A reinforced locking system: the pins

Each board is equipped with a double security locking system. Once locked, it cannot come undone unless manually released.

➡️ For example: our 3-piece Mini Malibu was tested at Uluwatu on 3m waves (Bali). No breakage, no loss, just smooth riding. If you want to see it, we filmed our surf trip and it’s available right here: [ON SURF ULUWATU AVEC UNE PLANCHE DEMONTABLE – YouTube]

In testing, the Newave modular surfboards withstood up to 285 kg of tensile force. It didn’t break, only the pins gave way.

2. Are Newave boards strong and sturdy?

What resistance to powerful waves?

When it comes to modular surfboards, the first reaction is often to doubt their strength and that’s perfectly understandable. But our boards are built to last, both in lab tests and in real surf conditions.

Tested and proven Newave modular surfboards

Newave boards have shown their durability both in laboratory stress tests and real-life surf sessions. They are just as resistant as traditional surfboards. During trials at our manufacturer Cobra, our boards passed a load test exceeding 300 kg, matching the strength standards of a classic surfboard.

But the real test is the ocean itself. Hadrien and Ewen have put Newave boards to the test in real conditions. They’ve traveled and handled the waves of the Atlantic coast, the powerful Scottish swells, the warm waters of Sri Lanka, and the famous waves of Bali. Tested by many surfers, Newave boards always spark curiosity and impress with their performance comparable to traditional boards.

What about water infiltration?

The Newave “W” locking system is the key to revolutionizing surfboard transport. It’s the result of over 2 years of research, development, and hundreds of hours of testing. Our locking systems are patented, designed to resist water infiltration, pressure, sand, impacts, and temperature variations. A high-density foam seals each joint for perfect waterproofing.

What about surf sensations and flex?

Anyone who’s tried it will tell you: you don’t feel the joint. The system is engineered to follow the natural flex of the board, with no disruption to your glide.

🎥 You can check out our full in-depth video on our YouTube channel. Hadrien, Newave’s Technical Director, puts the boards to the test in:  Planche classique VS Planche Newave – YouTube.

Spoiler alert: only one of the boards broke.

3. Is innovation accessible?

Why does a Newave modular surfboard cost this price

Yes, buying a Newave board is an investment but it’s a smart one. It saves you money in the long run. It’s a durable, scalable, and innovative product. Our boards are more expensive than some entry-level models, and here’s why:

2 registered patents : a unique innovation in the world, which naturally costs more to manufacture than a standard board.

Durability : we use premium materials and reinforced lamination, which increases production costs but ensures long-lasting performance.

Versatility : with just 7 interchangeable pieces, you can create 9 different boards. Traditional compact boards are hard to repair and often require buying multiple models to enjoy different sensations. With Newave, one board evolves with you and covers multiple needs.

No need to buy a second board : one board, multiple setups. As your skills or preferences evolve, simply add a new piece, no need to replace the whole board.

Newave’s modular surfboards promote and encourage eco-friendly mobility: our system is designed for easy travel. You can take your board by train, carpooling, hitchhiking, or bus.

For example, on a French high-speed train (TGV), the maximum luggage size allowed is 1.20m, even a Newave longboard fits perfectly in any luggage compartment!
