To communicate with complete transparency, it is essential to listen to unpleasant remarks: It'll never last! It's a beach toy, not a surfboard! It's super heavy!
The aim of these few lines is to answer the questions that have been constantly raised in recent months: resistance, weight and durability .
Q1: Can the boards withstand the impact?
We have experimented extensively on this subject from the outset. The current prototypes are the 11th and 12th versions of boards that we have developed!
The first boards were functional: very pleasant to surf but not durable enough. We had some nice waves but also some breakage problems.

However, we learned a great deal from our initial trials. By identifying areas of weakness and conducting tests and simulations on a test bench, we were able to significantly improve the system, making it a board at least as durable as a conventional one!
Indeed, the latest bench tests are conclusive. We broke a classic longboard by pulling 250 kg, whereas despite pulling 290 kg on our prototype, it was impossible to break the Newave board.
Q2: How much do the boards weigh?
To estimate the mass differences, we built a classic board of the same shape as our mini Malibu takedown board and weighed both boards to compare the results.
Weight of the classic mini-malibu: 4.6 kg | Weight of the Newave mini-malibu: 6.5 kg
It is estimated that a Newave board weighs approximately 25% more than a standard board. We are currently working on optimizing the manufacturing process to reduce the weight. Initial results are promising, and future versions should be significantly lighter. We will keep you updated!
Q3: Will the board last over time?
Again, we experimented a lot on this. We conducted numerous bench tests using a motor to simulate a large number of waves and duck dives and observe the board's long-term behavior.
We are also in the middle of testing our current prototypes! They go in the water almost every day 😉
In conclusion, we wanted to reassure you about our approach and the quality of the products we develop. We will not deliver to any customer without the full assurance of offering a robust, lightweight product that can be used regularly for many years.
We will also share the upcoming tests with you so that you can best follow the progress of our project!
