Side fins
Side fins, also known as lateral fins, complete a single or 2+1 setup to provide more control, grip, and precision. Placed on each side of the board, they play a key role in rail hold and allow you to adapt your board's behavior according to conditions and your surfing style.
Used in conjunction with a central fin, side fins significantly improve grip in turns, especially in hollower or faster sections. They help secure trajectories and provide more control during changes of direction. This configuration offers a better balance between stability and maneuverability, ideal for surfers who want to gain precision.
Unlike the side fins of a thruster, side fins are generally smaller. This reduced size limits drag in the water, which helps maintain more speed, especially in weak waves. They thus provide a good compromise between fluidity and grip, without weighing down the ride.
Side fins also allow you to fine-tune your board's behavior. They make trajectories tighter than with a pure single fin, while maintaining a sense of fluidity. They are particularly effective on mid-lengths and longboards, where they offer more control without sacrificing style.
Whether for improving your performance or adapting your board to different conditions, side fins are an excellent addition. They are suitable for both progressing surfers and experienced riders looking for precision, control, and versatility.
